Deacons were first appointed to care for the Lord's table, the poor, the preacher, and strangers and other matters; duties they still perform. The deacon ministry of GNH exists to serve God, to serve and assist our Pastor and to serve and minister to the Church and its members as well as the community. The Church wants its deacons to reflect Christ; Jesus life serves as the model for deacons where in Mark 10:45 he says that he "came not to be served, but to serve". Our deacons love God and pray for his blessings on the church and its members. The urgent need for deacons to live holy and righteous lives give real strength to the congregation. By attending Sunday School, Bible Study and other functions at the Church, our deacons are honestly trying to fulfill the duties provided for them in I Timothy 3:8-13; not just at Church but in their everyday lives. The Bible teachings coming from God through Pastor Lairry, provides for spiritual growth and maturity, his teachings also keep our deacons close to God and the Bible; both morally and spiritually.
The Mother Board & Mission
The Mission and Mother Board of Greater New Hope Baptist Church is a channel by which the Church Motto: Reaching Teaching and Preaching the Word is God is carried out into the community. Through our works many hearts are touched and ministered unto. The following are ministries Pastor Edward Lairry has placed in the care of the Mission and Mother Board. In our regularly scheduled ministry visits to the nursing homes, prisons and the sick-and shut-in, the Mission body is accompanied by one of our associate ministers to share and spread the Word of God to all those who have a desire to hear and learn about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We have a year round Clothing Ministry to assist anyone in need with clothing and shoes at no cost. There is also, a gigantic outdoor Clothing Give-away held two times a year. In our efforts to further reach out to the community and make a difference, Greater New Hope has a Food Ministry where free food is given to anyone showing a need. In the Hair Cut Ministry, free hair cuts are given each second and fourth Saturday, 8:00 a.m.-ll: 00 a.m. at the church. Last, but not least, we recently started two projects as another way to extend our hands into the community. Our first project involves weekly "care and concern", telephone calls to our fellow members. The Mission's second project is to make head caps to give to cancer treatment patients. With God's help, it is our goal to always be ready, and committed to work in His service. The Mission and Mother Board meets the 1st Saturday of each month at 10:00 a.m.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven," Matthew 5:16. The Brotherhood ministry serves a unique purpose to the Church. The brothers are Christian men involved in seeing to the upkeep of the Church and its grounds and spreading out into the community to assist with whatever is needed. The strength of the Brotherhood lies heavily in our Pastor's teachings and our voluntary nature; thus, saving the Church hundreds of dollars. In our Brotherhood we have men who are capable of doing electrical wiring, plumbing, and general repair. These men are willing to go the extra mile to be sure that whatever project is taken on it is satisfactorily completed. Our Brotherhood also takes an interest in the younger males giving them some strong Christian role models to look up to. The Brotherhood ministry includes: Yard maintenance Building maintenance Van cleaning Church activities Outreach in the Community Evangelism The brothers of the Brotherhood work close with Pastor Lairry in keeping the Church well maintained and looking good.
