Youth Department
Greater New Hope Baptist Church is attempting to make a difference in the world through our youth. Pastor Lairry always tells our youth "you're never too young to serve God". The GNH Youth Department keeps our children very busy. We have annual Black History and Christmas plays. To celebrate Easter, the youth department presents the inspiring and renowned play "The Crucifixion of Jesus Christ". Performers in the plays are very talented and gifted members of the congregation. Because of the concern for our youth's future, and their spiritual growth, Pastor Lairry and the Youth Directors, make Christian education a part of the Youth Department's monthly meetings. Each month the children attends an outside activity such as bowling, skating, or a trip to the amusement/water park. A well attended yearly fashion show is sponsored by the youth department. The Youth Department is given the very important responsibility to plan and organized Vacation Bible School each year. The church's special event trip taken every two years is always well planned and organized by our youth department.
Christian Education
Christian Education is the #1 priority of our Pastor. Rev. Edward D. Lairry, our Pastor tells us that the Word of God is essential for every child of God. We receive the teachings of the Word in full force by our Pastor and associate ministers, through doctorial lessons at Wednesday night Bible Study and Prayer Meeting. Bible Study is packed with knowledge and we have fun learning. Pastor Lairry teaches on a level everyone understands. Pastor Lairry encourages us to be consistent in learning about God, and teaches us that you cannot have a relationship with God and not know Him. He teaches us that the Word of God is our sword, which equips us to handle any of life's storms. The Word of God gives you the strength to praise God, and to be content in whatever state you may be going through. The teaching of the Word at Greater New Hope has helped members to become convicted and become new creatures in Jesus Christ. Our Christian education continues in Sunday School every Sunday morning starting at 9:30 a.m. where class members have an opportunity to share in how the Word has impacted their everyday lives. At 11:00 a.m. Sunday Worship Service is where the Word of God is preached to all. We have a HOLY GHOST filled time here at Greater New Hope Baptist Church. On Saturday mornings 11:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m. Pastor Lairry broadcasts the Word of God on KITA Radio Station 1440 AM. Evangelism is another form of Christian Education here at Greater New Hope Baptist Church. We believe salvation is the one gift you can never lose! John 10:28-29 says "And I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish; neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." The Evangelism Ministry is designed to reach out to those who do not know Christ. Our mission is to go out into the different communities and neighborhoods spreading God's Word and love. We pass out flyers and door hangers inviting all to our worship services where they will receive the pure and unadulterated doctrine of Jesus Christ that is preached by Pastor Edward Lairry. Greater New Hope's Outreach and Rehabilitation Ministry reaches out to those that want to be delivered from any addiction i.e. drugs, alcohol, lying, stealing, backbiting and etc. The Word of God is taught by one of our spirit filled associate ministers. Everyone has an opportunity to give input and testimony that may help someone. The Outreach Ministry starts at 6:00 p.m. every Saturday night and ends when the Holy Spirit says so.
Usher Board
When you walk through the doors of Greater New Hope, the first people to greet you are ushers. When you look around the sanctuary, you will see them standing on the wall for Jesus. Their theme is based on Psalms 84:10 that states, "I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness". The Greater New Hope Ushel Board is a Christian ministry consisting of both junior and senior members. Sister Cathy Green is President, Brother Leo Phillips serves as Vice President, and Sister Cheryl Whitley is Director of the Junior Usher Board. There are also other officers and several committees in place. The Usher Board's main duties are supporting Pastor Edward Lairry and the congregation. They also support local usher boards on their anniversaries and other events. The Usher Board is a unified group that believes they are doing the work of the Lord. If you are interested in joining the usher board, meetings are held monthly on the fourth Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
